I Am Hearing . . . “Cold Mountain,” which I’m watching/listening to while I catch up on my Google Reader. I’m also recording it on DVR because it’s one of those movies that I love to watch over and over again (“Signs” is another one — my favorite movie of both Mel Gibson’s and Joaquin Phoenix’s). “Cold Mountain” is one of those stories I love in both book and movie form — I think it’s the best performance Renee Zellweger’s done yet. If you’ve never read the book, I highly recommend it — I will say, however, I like that I saw the movie before I read the book, because the cast is stellar and I enjoyed “seeing” the actors as their characters in my mind when I read the book.
I Am Reading . . . several books: (1) “Eona,” by Alison Goodman. It’s the second in a two-book series; I finished the first book earlier today (well, yesterday, to be technical) and went right to the Kindle store and downloaded the second book; (2) “The Nerdist Way,” by Chris Hardwick, nerdist extraordinaire; and I’m skimming through several of Danica McKellar’s math-themed books (seriously, wouldn’t she be a great love interest for one of the Big Bang Theory characters?!!).
A Series I’m Following . . . is the Nerdist’s podcasts (which is how I got turned onto Chris Hardwick’s and Danica McKellar’s books mentioned above). I’ve listened to six or eight of them so far, and there are still so, so many more on my “listen-to” list! My favorite thus far has been the podcast with Neil Patrick Harris (such a fantastic all-around entertainer), and I also liked the one with Joan Rivers (such a business-saavy person). I should mention these podcasts are NSFW, nor would I recommend them for those who are offended by swear words.
Three Things I’ve Recently Bookmarked . . . (1) a cat singing the “Game of Thrones” theme; (2) Bourne-Vivaldi mash-up by The Piano Guys; and (3) a drawing demo at Drawing Saudade — I’ve never taken any kind of art class, so it was very helpful to me to watch someone sketch in, then fine-tune, their drawing.
Here Is A Picture . . . of some of the first things I embroidered (and sewed, to boot!), drawstring bags with embroidered patches for a niece and nephew for their birthdays in May 2008:
